Heartwood Construction was founded in 2002 by Robert Nelson. He has over 30 years experience as a residential remodeling carpenter. Robert has remodeled homes of all ages and specializes in energy efficiency and preserving the architectural integrity of older homes through historic preservation.
Robert has a Bachelors degree in history and drama from Principia College. When he is not remodeling and reading, Robert enjoys spending time with his wife, Ann, and his daughter, Cheris, and walking their dogs, Ollie and PauPaw.
Cheris is the Office Manager at Heartwood Construction. She has experience with a variety of jobs, from phlebotomist to administrative assistant to children’s mobile lunch coordinator at a food pantry. She uses these skills to stay flexible and meet any task sent her way. She is excited to help out at Heartwood Construction and learn more about carpentry and the trades.
Cheris has a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts with certificates in Digital Media and Gender & Women’s Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. When she’s not cooking or trying out new restaurants, she enjoys playing video games and creating digital & physical art. She lives on the North side with her partner, Marcus, and their two cats, Oliver and Gimli.
